Gazette No. 3 — Attestation: Secretary-General

Be it known and placed on record: That the Secretary-General of the Mohawk Nation of Grand River Secretariat hereby attests to his appointment, his standing, and his authority to act as the institutional representative of the Haldimand Beneficiary Class in all constitutional, legal, and diplomatic proceedings.

I. Identity and Standing

Benjamin Doolittle UE, Secretary-General, attests as follows:

• I am Lower Mohawk of Grand River, Turtle Clan
• I am a sixth great-grandson of Colonel Joseph Brant (Thayendanegea) UEL, Canajoharie Mohawk, as certified by the United Empire Loyalists’ Association of Canada (UELAC)
• My matrilineal descent is documented through ten generations from Colonel Brant’s sister through the Turtle Clan line to my grandmother, Jessie May Hill née Doolittle, through whom my Mohawk descent is established
• My descent from Captain David Hill UEL, Lower Mohawk, Turtle Clan, on the maternal Loyalist line is separately documented

II. Institutional Authority

As Secretary-General, I am authorized to: execute all instruments of the Secretariat; appear in all proceedings on behalf of the Secretariat; sign and seal all official correspondence; and act as the institutional representative of the Haldimand Beneficiary Class in all matters affecting the Haldimand Proclamation of 1784 and the Grand River corridor.

III. Professional Affiliations

The Secretary-General holds the following institutional affiliations relevant to the constitutional programme:

• United Empire Loyalists’ Association of Canada (UELAC) — certificate on file establishing Colonel Joseph Brant UEL descent
• Royal Heraldry Society of Canada — member
• Monarchist League of Canada — member
• Editor and columnist, Two Row Times, Ohsweken, Grand River Territory
