About the Secretariat

The Secretariat of the Mohawk Nation of Grand River is the formal administrative and institutional record body of the Nation.

The Secretariat of the Mohawk Nation of Grand River is the formal administrative and institutional record body of the Nation. It exists to give organized, continuous, and public expression to the Nation’s governing authority through official instruments, notices, attestations, appointments, certificates, and registry systems entered in the Register of the Nation. The Register is the permanent and authoritative record of the Secretariat, held and maintained by the Registrar General.

The Secretariat is structured through an ordered body of offices, including the Secretary-General, Registrar General, Attorney General, Inspector General, Surveyor General, Treasurer General, and related branches for lands, Crown relations, communications, trust, records, and administration. Through these offices, the Secretariat records and administers matters touching governance, territorial jurisdiction, land and title, fiduciary and trust accounting, public notice, and official representation.

Its purpose is not symbolic. The Secretariat serves as the Nation’s working institutional instrument for maintaining official continuity, preserving the public record, issuing formal notices and certifications, and giving administrative form to the Nation’s governing authority in the Grand River Territory.
