Gazette No. 32 — Notice of Direct Crown Relationship — Privy Council Office

Be it known and placed on record: That the Mohawk Nation of Grand River Secretariat gives formal notice to the Privy Council Office of Canada of the direct Crown-to-Nation relationship between the Mohawk Nation and the Crown, which does not pass through any Indian Act intermediary.

I. The Direct Relationship

The Haldimand Proclamation of 1784 was made between the Crown and the Mohawk Nation as between two parties to a bilateral covenant. The relationship is Crown-to-Nation. It does not pass through the Six Nations Elected Band Council, the Haudenosaunee Confederacy Council, the Department of Indigenous Affairs, or any other intermediary.

II. Notice to the Privy Council Office

The Secretariat notifies the Privy Council Office that it is the direct constitutional contact for all matters relating to the Haldimand Proclamation and the Grand River corridor. The appropriate constitutional response from the Crown to the Secretariat’s constitutional programme is not a referral to the Six Nations litigation, but a direct Crown-to-Nation engagement on the constitutional questions raised in the AG Demand (G66) and the Application for Writ of Mandamus (G63).
