Gazette No. 0 — Master Index — Reserved Root Entry

Root Index of the Register of the Nation
Date: 28 March 2026
Category: Executive Government
Status: Perfected

Be it known and placed on record: That the G0 instrument is the master index entry of the Register of the Nation of the Mohawk Nation of Grand River Secretariat. It is reserved as the root index and carries no operative instrument of its own. All Gazette entries G1 through G76 — and all subsequent entries — derive their institutional authority from the Register established by Gazette No. 1.

The G0 entry records the constitution of the Register nunc pro tunc 25 October 1784. The institutional existence of the Mohawk Nation of Grand River Secretariat dates from the Haldimand Proclamation; the formal registration of the Register dates from 28 March 2026. Both dates are operative.

Constitutional Significance

The Haldimand Proclamation of 25 October 1784 is the constitutive instrument of the Mohawk Nation of Grand River Secretariat. By commanding that the Grand River corridor be set apart for the Mohawk Nation and their posterity forever, Governor General Sir Frederick Haldimand constituted the institutional framework that the Secretariat now administers. The Reserve of the Nation traces its authority to that date.

The nunc pro tunc dating is not a fiction. It is the legal recognition that the rights established in 1784 are the same rights being administered today, and that the institutional framework for administering them was latent in the Proclamation from the moment of its execution.
