Gazette No. 60 — Haldimand Lands Trust Conservancy / BlueBelt + Grand River

Be it known and placed on record: That the Haldimand Lands Trust Conservancy is hereby formally registered in the Register of the Nation as the primary land stewardship institution of the Mohawk Nation of Grand River, companion to and operating within the same territorial framework as the BlueBelt + Grand River Haldimand Tract Land Trust Conservancy (G59).

I. The Haldimand Beneficiary Class

The Land Trust Conservancy holds land on behalf of the Haldimand Beneficiary Class — the Mohawk posterity of the three named villages: Canajoharie, Tikondarago, and Aughquaga. The Beneficiary Class is defined by the Citizenship Determination Rules (G19). The Conservancy exists to benefit this class in the present day, not merely to preserve a historical claim.

II. The Land Trust Account

The Land Trust Account established by Gazette No. 25 is the financial instrument through which the Conservancy receives and disburses funds for the benefit of the Haldimand Beneficiary Class. Ground rent, restitution recoveries, and voluntary contributions designated for conservation work are received by the Land Trust Account.

III. Relationship to the Mandamus Programme

The Haldimand Lands Trust Conservancy will be the primary institution through which the post-mandamus conservation and stewardship work is organized. Once the Parcel Administration Programme (G76) is operational and the constructive notice system is in place, the Conservancy will be positioned to receive formal conveyances of lands within the corridor from parties who elect to resolve their Haldimand encumbrance obligations.
