Gazette No. 49 — Mohawk Nation Housing Initiative (MNHI)
Category: Municipal
Status: Perfected
Be it known and placed on record: That the Mohawk Nation Housing Initiative (MNHI) is hereby established, addressing housing within the Mohawk Acquired Territory for members of the Haldimand Beneficiary Class. The MNHI operates on the constitutional foundation that the Crown has an ongoing obligation to ensure that the Mohawk posterity can benefit from the Territory set apart for them in perpetuity.
The housing crisis within Six Nations of the Grand River is well documented. The Secretariat’s constitutional programme, when the mandamus order is obtained and the full Programme Directive (G71) activated, will establish the ground conditions for the Mohawk posterity to benefit from the Territory in ways that have been denied to them for over 230 years. The MNHI is the Secretariat’s institutional framework for managing that transition.
